Umihotaru (海ほたる) is a parking area (PA) located along the Tokyo Bay Aqualine, which connects Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture and Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Built on a 650 m-long artificial island (Kisarazu Artificial Island) floating in the middle of Tokyo Bay, this sea parking area is also famous as a scenic viewpoint.
The five-story facility has parking on floors 1 to 3 and shopping/restaurants on floors 4 to 5, attracting many travelers as a sightseeing spot that goes far beyond a typical highway rest stop.

How to Get to Umihotaru
Access by Highway Bus (Public Transportation)
- Some services on the "Aqualine Highway Bus" connecting JR Kawasaki Station and JR Kisarazu Station stop at Umihotaru PA (about 40 minutes from Kawasaki Station, about 30 minutes from Kisarazu Station)
- If you miss the last bus, you may not be able to get back, so checking the timetable in advance is essential
Access by Car (Recommended!)
Because Umihotaru is a parking area on an expressway, visiting by car is the most convenient option!
- From Kanagawa side: About 10 minutes from the Shuto Expressway Kawasaki-Ukishima JCT
- From Chiba side: About 5 minutes from Kisarazu-Kaneda IC
U-turns are also possible at Umihotaru, so you can come from the Chiba side, enjoy Umihotaru, and then head back toward Chiba.
Parking:
- Standard cars: 2F and 3F (196 spaces each)
- Large vehicles: 1F (92 spaces)
- Weekends and holidays get crowded, so visiting early in the morning is recommended
